  • About

We are proudly a 100% VOLUNTEER company, 100% of the time. We are one of the few companies left in Augusta County that operates with all volunteers 24/7/365.

We are the community, and we get our strength from our make-up of career firefighters, public safety officers, career EMTs, mechanics/technicians, carpenters, dispatchers, office assistants, bankers, police officers, store workers, medical attendants, restaurant workers, nannies, correction officers, church assistants, hospital workers, ministers, grocery store workers, helicopter pilots, automotive store workers, painters, food workers, teachers, and students.

We proudly have 17 female members on our team, who operate as firefighters, EMTs, support members, photographers, and Officers. As of May 2017 we boast a roster of 54 members that include 27 certificated FF's, and 23 EMT's. In 2016 we answered 100% of the 316 calls for service with a 2m 42s response time.

    About our Chief:
Chief Kevin Wilkes began his fire service career in 1991 in Wilmington, DE. He moved to the Staunton area in 2004, where he was employed by the City of Staunton Fire Department. Soon after, Wilkes was recruited to the Swoope Volunteer Fire Company.

Wilkes has served as the Company's Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief and is the current Fire Chief. He has worked with federal, state and local funding to acquire multiple fire trucks and emergency response vehicles all at nearly no cost to the company!
